In light of the current coal mine disaster in West Virginia
I think that it's relevant to post that two of the worst mine disasters in history occurred in Dawson NM.
The mine explosion in 1913 killed 263 miners and a second in 1923 took 122 lives.
The Dawson Cemetery is very interesting to visit, especially for those interested in genealogy. The cemetery is open to the public, the former town site of Dawson is not.
