Brook/McCrea/Moore -1920's taxi business

I am looking for info on Russell W. Brook, who was in the Bernalillo Co., NM census in 1900. He then appears in the City Directory for Albuquerque from 1917-1928. He was partners in taxi businesses with a John McCrea and E.W. Moore. It seems like one of these men was a banker.

Russell W. Brook was born on 12/21/1866 in Georgia, and died 7/28/1954 in Los Angeles.

In 1928, Russell lived at 121 1/2 N. 1st, which was the Angelus Hotel. He was a driver for the Two Thousand Taxi Co.

In 1927, 1926, and 1925, he lived in the Bronx Hotel (113 1/2 W. Central Ave). He was a driver for the United Taxi Co.

In 1924 and 1923, he lived at 218 1/2 W. Gold Ave, and was a driver/owner of the Six Hundred Taxi Co. located at 200 W. Central. He was also a part owner in the Star Stage Line, at the same address.

In 1922 and 1921, he lived at the same place, but owned a taxi line with E.W. Moore and John McCrea.

In 1920, he was a driver for the Six-Double-O taxi, which was managed by E.W. Moore.

In 1919, Russell and John McCrea owned the Sturges Taxi line at the Sturges Hotel, 101 S. 1st St.

In 1918, Russell was a pipeman at the Highland Fire Station, and roomed at 214 S. Edith.

In 1917, Russell was a mechanic for Dodson Garage, and roomed at 400 N. 4th St.

He may have been in Albuquerque prior to these, but these are all the city directories I could find.

Russell moved to Los Angeles in 1934, and died there in 1954. His death certificate said he was widowed. Did Russell Brook get married in New Mexico? The informant on his death certificate was a Mabel Swenson. John and Mabel Swenson paid for Russell's funeral expenses and grave plot at the Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum on Whittier Blvd. in Los Angeles.

A great aunt seems to recall a letter from Russell indicating he was getting married and moving to California, which he did move, but I have not found a record of his marriage.

If anyone has any info or knowledge about Russell, or how these three men were connected (brother-in-laws?) please contact me at

Thanks so much.
Randy Brooks
