Seeking information on Peter Sheldon. Born 5 Sept 1831 in New Jersey. He was in Stillwater, Sussex Co. 1850. Mustered out of Port Jervis, NY 1861, wounded in Williamsburg and left the hospital in NYC w/o permission 1862. I have his pension file. Married in Colesville (Colle ville), Sussex Co. Moved frequently, but stayed in the Sussex Co. area regularly. Other areas were Matamoras, PA where his sister, Margaret Sheldon Danley, lived; Port Jervis area, NY. He owned 40 acres for a time around 1879 in Hainesville, NJ.
His wife’s name was Sarah J., born abt 1847 NJ.
Edward Schoonover aka Robert E. Sheldon, born 4 Jan 1866 PA;
George Washington Sheldon, born 26 Dec 1869 NY;
Margaret E Sheldon, born 1875 NJ;
Emma E Sheldon, born 1878 NJ (possibly in Montague).

Federal Census:
1850 Stillwater, NJ;
1870 Lumberland, Sullivan, NY;
1880 Sandyston, NJ.
Have not been able to find him in the 1860 or 1900 census. Our LDS family History librarian can’t find him either.

Have looked for his marriage in the LDS film for Sussex County 1854-1877 – nothing.

Peter died 17 Nov 1905 in Bath, NY at the VA Center for Disabled Soldiers and Sailors. He is buried there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
