I am struggling with the proverbial brick wall to find my great grandfather's final whereabouts.
The details we have so far are as follows:-

Born Wigan Lancs UK 1865
Found on 1881 ,1891 UK census
He then left the UK leaving his family behind and went to the USA.
We have an undated letter to his brother from Plainfield New Jersey.
Also we have found him on the 1900 US census for South Bound Brook Somerset County New Jersey with his "wife".

After that we have no knowledge of what happened to him. We cannot trace him on any subsequent census whether it be US, UK or Canadian.

As you will appreciate it was upsetting for my grandfather , father, aunt and uncle not to know what happened to him.

As in most families we know that part of the family know / knew the details but would never tell my side the story. Unfortunately anyone who would know are now likely to be dead.

This is not a case of trying to interfere with any living relatives that he might have that I am not aware of but trying to find out where he was finally buried.

Of those mentioned above only my fahter , who is now 78 and his sister (83) remain.

I would like before it to late for them to try and trace him so if anyone can help in any way I would be truly grateful.

Being in the Uk and in full time employment it is not easy for me to spend anything like the time necessary on such a search.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

Paul Meadow (Wigan UK)
