I am trying to locate anyone familiar with the Finlaw family in Salem County, New Jersey. My paternal grandmother was Louise Vroom Finlaw, born in Washington County, Kansas. However, most of this family were born in Salem County, NJ. My paternal great grandfather, James Parker Finlaw, was born in Salem County on 1 January 1847; his father, William P. Finlaw, was born in Salem County on 16 September 1797; and his father, Robert Finlaw, was born in Salem County in 1767. This information is from a family bible and other personal records. James Parker Finlaw served in the Civil War in Company K, New Jersey 2nd Cavalry Regiment. The 1850 US Census, Township of Lower Alloways Creek, NJ, lists William Finlaw, age 52, with family of 9 children, including James, age 3. William's wife, Esther Jane Sculpher, died in February 1850 before the census taken on 20 August 1850.
