I could not find any Dickerson or Dickinson in the 1830 census index for anywhere in Monmouth County. Here is what I found in 1840:
Page 180
Howell Twp., Monmouth County
Dickerson, James
one male 10-15, one male 20-30, one female 40-50

The entries are mostly alphabetized, so the neighbor info is not available.

On page 278 in Howell Twp, Monmouth 1830
I also found a man named Carpenter Dikenson:
Dikenson, Carpenter
One male 15-20, one male 40-50, one female 30-40.

I suppose it entirely possible that the youth in this entry is James from the 1840 and maybe the lady in both entries is his mother? If the boy age 10-15 on the 1840 was born in late 1830 he could be a brother who didn't make it on the 1830 census. Just a guess. These were the only two entries I could find.

You know what, my great greatgrandparents also lived in Howell twp at this time =) They were married in Howell twp in 1844. James West & Lydia Johnson. Small world eh?
