I am searching for connections to the White's of NJ,and to the Hennessey's of NJ and to the DeWitt's of NJ&NY. I know there are many!
I am a gr gr grandaughter of Mary Elizabeth White Hennessey who married John I. Hennessey in Hamilton,NJ about 1840.
Their children include my gr grandfather, John I., Jr. who married Anna Francis (her brother was a senator)--and John and Anna F's children included Ira Hennessey who is my grandfather. Ira married Anna DeWitt. They lived in Long Branch,NJ, but were divorced and she later married Walter Foulks and moved to Florida. All history of the Hennessey's went into a 'skeleton closet' and never were mentioned again! But Anna and Ira's son, Charles H. is my dad. He didn't know much and out of respect for Grandma Anna, he didn't reveal much either. Now they are both gone and we are trying to put the family pieces together...we want so very much to know!!
The Hennessey's had the Pound Fishing Business and one of their 3 businesses floated out to sea in one of the hurricanes then. (How do I find a picture which was taken and printed in a newspaper then or so I understand??)
Would love to hear more about these families and the times. My brothers and sisters have felt like orphans with absolutely no info until just recently about--- any of these families at all!
Thanks ahead of time and thankyou for posting about the early NJ history!!
