Dianne,
I do not follow collateral lines past immediate siblings, but your data seems to fit in with what is already known. I descend from John's daughter: Deborah BURDGE.(m. Elisha MORRIS in 1800; m2) Jacob LIPPINCOTT in 1806). Joseph was her sibling and is about 10 yrs. her junior.
The marriage of John's child (Joseph) into the LONGSTREET family, use of local known surnames as given/middle names for their children, etc. makes sense & is part of the family pattern.
This still leaves the main question unanswered: WHO was the wife of John.."my beloved wife, Mary..." ???
The answer we need lies in the EARLIER generation, searching for a marriage (or more than one ?) for John BURDGE, of the above Will.
Any man who names one son, JOHN and another one JONATHAN must have had a warped sense of humor !
The LONGSTREET lines are almost as convoluted as the BURDGE ones, and we must keep in mind that they all inter-married enough to drive us crazy.
I would like to have email contact with you, since endless speculation in these Message Forums get confusing. Also can put you in touch with others working on this.
