Lori, I checked Joseph Alt's index to the Matawan Journal for the 1928 issues, to no avail. Not that it was likely to be in a Matawan newspaper...

Have you written to Trenton for the death certificate? That would give you the exact date of death, which could help you find a newspaper article in a nearby town.
