My ancestor, William Lee, died in 1807, Warren Co. Ohio. His third wife was said to have been Eleanor Greenup who subsequently married John Vannoy and William Daughtery. I am still searching for Eleanor Greenup, if indeed that was her name, and where Lee might have met her. In this search, I include Lee's connection to Quaker families. So many of the Quakers came out of Lancashire and Yorkshire into Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and in the Aldington Parish Records of Lancashire, England there is a Christopher Greenup, 1562. I find in the Early Quaker Records of Philadelphia 25/7/1713, John Nailer and Mary Greenup declare their intentions to marry, the said John producing a certificate from Radnor Monthly Meeting (nr. Haverford, PA), and also his father being present, gives his consent. (Watring, vol. I p. 206). Lee may very well have lived in Loudon County, Va where Christopher Greenup lived. Balch Library, Folder 101, Speech given at Wilbur Hall, Leesburg: Christopher Greenup, governor of Kentucky was born in near Gleedsville in Loudoun County, VA, married Mary Catherine Pope, d/o Capt. Nathaniel Pope and Lucy Fox Pope of Hanover County, VA. Lucy Fox’s mother was of Cub Creek, Louisa County, VA. Children of Christopher and Caty Pope were: Nancy and William. In 1787 Greenup was joined by Harry Innis, Thomas Barker, Geo. Nicholas and Samujel M. David as founders of the Kentucky Society for the Promotion of Useful Knowledge; Greenup was present at the first board meeting of Translyvannia Seminary at Cross Station, Lincoln Co. KY. In 1782, Edward Greenup also taxed 1t, 6 c p. 28 in Frederick Co. VA (an adjoining county) on the same roll as Hezekiah Bonham whose family was in Burlington NJ. We were unable to find an Eleanor in Christopher's family. Any help will be appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
