It appears that you are seeking information for relatives who were born after 1900 and most likely married about 1920 or so. As you know, census records are not released for 72 years after the census is taken [1940 will be released in 2012].
1930 is the last available census at this time.
Ordering death certificates helps. Order any death cert. from the county of death. Do not order from a 3rd party service. Do not use 'nick names' when ordering a death cert.
Also, city directories also help! City directories may take you through the 50's & 60's.
