HOWEY GENEALOGY
February 12, 1955By EUNICE A.PRINTZClyde, Ohio
All I know about my grandfather, Robert Howey, is that he was born and raised somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. His father owned a large plantation and had many slaves. How many brothers and sisters he had I do not know. Robert was sent away to school. When he finished his education, returned home, and I suppose like lots of young men at that age was very bossy and independent, thought he could boss the slaves around. His father being in kind man to his help, objected, a quarrel followed and Robert left home. (At what age I do not know). He drifted to New Jersey where he married and had three sons. His wife died, and leaving his sons in care of his wife's parents, he left and came to Northumberland Co., Shamokin Township, Pennsylvania. There he met Sarah Price and they were married July 2nd, 1835, by Justice of the Peace W. H. Munch. To this union were born 10 children. Two died in infancy, eight growing up. He died in summer of 1852 and was buried near Shamokin, Penn. The following are the names of their children: Maria, Jackson, Susan, Aron, Alba, Julianne, Rosannah and John.
Sarah Price Howey was born Feb. 18, 1813, in Shamokin Twp., Northumberland Co., Penn. Her mother was Susan Fox Price and her father Aron Price. Was married to Robert Howey July 2nd, 1835. After the death of her husband kept her children together and in May, 1854, came to Monroeville, Huron Co., Ohio, where they resided with her uncle, Joseph Fox, until the autumn of 1854, whence they came to Bellevue, Ohio. The next Year came to Parkertown, Ohio, with seven of her children. (The oldest girl had come to Ohio in 1853). Here she remained until her children all married.
She then went to Illinois, In Dec., 1880, she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Joe Hoover. She passed away March 26, 1897, at the age of 84 years, one month and eight days. Is buried at Bakertown Cemetery, near Clyde, Ohio. Although a cripple from infancy from a broken hip, was always a great worker, raising her eight children, till all had gone for themselves. Had her second eyesight. Pieced five quilts the winter she died.
