You may already have this piece of information: but the marriage date of Samson Hawk and Sarah Shaw was June 15,1750. He was from Great Egg Harbor and she from Cape May (most likely meaning county). Baptists was in parentheses after the record, which means that Sarah Shaw or both of them were of that faith. Samson Hawks also witnessed the will of Robert Cresse, which was dated and proved in the year 1768. The clue of Baptist and also that Robert Cresse, the deceased's son, Jonathan lived in Middle Precinct, it is probable that Sarah's family was from Middle Precinct (now called Township). William Shaw was one of the original founding whaler families, who resided in Middle Precinct (seaside), owning 200 acres of farmland, which he acquired the title to in 1695. You may be able to find out more about the early Shaw family from The Cape May County Historical & Genealogical Society in Cape May Court House, Middle Township. They are on-line. I don't know if they would have anything more on Samson Hawk. The surname of Hawk was prevelent in both Warren & Hunterdon Counties of NJ. There were four listings of them on the 1830 Census for the county of Gloucester, NJ. Sorry I can't give you more information. Notify Administrator about this message?
