Samuel Nixon of Luzerne County, PA
Samuel Nixon was born in Pennsylvania in February of 1851. In 1870, he was working as an engineer (probably in the mines)and the family was living in Plainsville, Pennsylvania.In 1880, they were living in Parsons Borough in Luzerne County, and was doing fairly well for the times; well enough to have line-in domestic help in the way ofMary J. Finnerty, a 20 year old Pennsylvanian, born to Irish immigrant parents. Samuel married Sarah J. Stoneham, the first child of Thomas Stoneham and Charlotte (Stoneham). Sarah was also a native of Pennsylvania.Together they had three children: Anna Elizabeth, Thomas Stoneham and Stella.Sarah died before 1900. After her death, Samuel married again, this time to Jane Gardner, a native of Wales, England, who lived around the corner in Parsons. Jane was a widow with six children, three of them still living at home.There were nonew children in this marriage between Jane and Samuel.
