I guessed that the Nixons of Peel Co and neighbouring Halton Co were all related, but so far most of the relationships have eluded me.
All I know about Hugh Nixon and his family came from the 1861 Census, Esquesing Twp, Halton Co page 23, line 31 to 38.By 1861 Hugh senior was a widower. He was a farmer living on Lot 13 Concession 9 of Esquesing Township. He was born abt 1815 in Ireland. An Agricultural census exists (page 48) which will give a remarkable amount of detail as to his economic situation.
The census lists eight children all born in Canada:
1) Samuel b 1833
2) Hugh b 1837
3) Elizabeth b 1841
4) George b 1843
5) James b 1845
6) Mary b 1849
7) Margaret b 1851
8) William b 1853
I am keen to discover Hugh's ancestors to know if he was related to the other Nixon families of the area.
If I discover that Hugh is a cousin, then I will be very interested in his descendants.
