Need help connecting Nix/Nicks generations
I am researching Sarah J. Nix, b.4/17/1862 TN, who married Francis Marion Martin about 1878 in Sharp Co., AR.They are enumerated on the 1880 Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co., AR Census.
I believe her parents were John Nix, b.1825 TN, and Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Jones who married 8/15/1852 Marshall Co., TN.There is a John Nix family in Dist.3, Obion Co., TN 1870 which includes a daughter, Sarah J.(initial transcribed as "I"), 8 yrs of age.
In 1880 John Nix is found in Dist.1, Lake Co., TN with his 3 younger children and possibly a housekeeper. Also on the 1880, a few pages over, is his wife Betsey J. Nicks in the household of their son, Monroe M., and his family; she states she is married.
On the 1900 Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co., AR census Betsey J. Nix is included in the household of Francis M. Martin and Sarah J. Martin. Her relation to him is recorded as "mother-in-law".She is widowed and states she was born Feb. 1834 in TN.Also in the same area is found Sarah's siblings from the 1870 census; Minerva(m.John McCord); Louisa Zilpha(m.John Weaver); and John Robert. There may be other siblings in Fulton or Sharp Co., AR.
In going backwards a bit, on the 1860 Dist.12, Marshall Co., TN census I see a Robert Nix(Niss)listed just before John and Elizabeth Nix(Niss). Is this John's father?John is not listed with this Robert Nix on the 1850 census, in fact I do not locate him as being recorded. One reason I question the fact that Robert is his father is that John states that his father was born in GA on the 1880 census and Robert states on the 1850-1880 census' that he was born in SC.Possibly John, or whoever gave the 1880 census info, did not know where his father was born.
I see various family files on Ancestry on this family and most agree to a point. Most do not show how they came to their conculsions, so I am at a loss trying to straighten out the various spelling of the surname and the lineage. It will be greatly appreciated if anyone out there can tell me if I am on the right path or not.I know there were branches of this family that did go to GA, so is John the son of someone other than Robert?
I am trying to help a friend research his family, and he has no info at all on any of the family.
