I am searching for clarification regarding a Rebecca Niver who married
either Isaac or Jacob Snyder in NY near the end of the 1700's. Their
daughter, Elizabeth Snyder then m. Hiram Lamphere in or near Rensallear
County, NY and had many children in that area before moving on to Macomb
County, MI. I am desperately trying to document that the name was
spelled in some form of Niver or Nifer (Knifer?, etc.). You see the
middle name of Knifer begins appearing in our family one generation
after the supposed Knifer/Niver/whatever married into the Snyder
family. We believe it was pronounced Nifer with a long i and perhaps
the spelling was changed by Elizabeth Snyder Lamphere. HELP.
