My father Alexander Heath Niven, son of Robert Angus Niven and Agnes Reekie Niven, came to Canada in 1926 with his mother and his brothers Bobbie & Freddie and sister Lilly. They came to join my grandfather who had come to Canada in 1924 on a world tour with an allstar team called the Borderers. He liked what he saw and sent for my grandmother. The Nivens left behind their eldest son Gilbert who was by now married. They joined two daughters who were already here, Aggie (Dolly) and Annie.
Now Agnes was a Niven both before and after her marriage. Her parents were Angus Niven and Mary Chalmers Wallace.Robert's parents were John Niven and Rebeccah Arbuckle. My grandmother Agnes and my grandfather Robert were cousins, their common ancestor being a Robert Niven who married Agnes Reekie. The Nivens centred near Glasgow. My grandfather Robert from Dumfries spoke with a Kirkaldy accent. When my grandmother's mother died, old Angus remarried settling in Boughness.
