Catherine, Thanks for your posting with its associating of William Niven with the Pollockshaws district of Edinburgh. There are two other 17th century Williams (either Niven or Nevin) of interest to me. One was the 7th laird of Monkredding who alienated the lands in 1693, thereby disappearing from Scottish records. Did he go to America? The other, identified only with Ayrshire and listed in family records as my 5 great grandfather, has so far eluded me in public records. Any leads or reactions would be appreciated.
