Hi Faye Thanks for your message. I fit in on the other side of the family - Aunt Peg (as she was known by the family) was my father's great (great?) Aunt and my great great (great?) aunt and he knew them as a small boy living in Scotland. My father's surname is Gemmel and we are linked to the Dempsters as his grandmother was a Dempster and the sister of Margaret (ie Granny Gemmel). My father has more of the details and I'll have to ask him all about - he has a family tree plus loads of other info. The Dempsters lived in a house called Deurchlich in Perthshire until the 1920's. They were all indeed very artistic and we have quite a few paintings that they have done -including some of my Grandfather as a young man(Henry James Gemmel) by Margaret Dempster. We also have a botanical herbarium which was done by Anges Dempster when she was about 14. She went on to study at University and they were all very accomplished. One of the sisters was also a concert pianist in Heidelberg in Germany. I also have Agnes Dempster's ivory dominos! We too have a lot of Nisbet's paintings (I have 2 and my father has 6 or 7) We also have some of his early sketchbooks. I believe that one of his paintings is onthe V&A museum and there is also one in the Tate. In addition I have a beautiful chest of drawers that belong to the old boy plus a painting of his wife Margaret (Peg). People say that I look like her. Do you still live in Australia? My mother is also Australian and comes from Melbourne. My family live in the UK and I live in London. I will ask my father more and get back to you - he may also have more info on your side of the family. I hope this has helped. All the best Tessa Notify Administrator about this message?
