Hi Faye

The painting I have of Margaret Dempster is by an artist called CP Ross, a friend of theirs. We have a number of paintings by Margaret, including one of my grandfather as a young man in the RFC and some cameos of my father as a very young child.

There were 4 or 5 Dempster sisters, Barbara, Elizabeth, Margaret (wife of Robert), Agnes (my Great Grandmother) and I think 1 other - Dad is checking. We have lots of family photos of them all in Scotland. We'll see if there are any of Bob.

The herbarium is a book of pressed plants that were taken from Scotland in 1880 (with all the Latin names). Agnes Dempster (Margaret's sister and my Great Granny) did this when she was around 14 years old. The concert pianist was Barbara Dempster and we have her diary of her time in Germany. We also have all her music.

My father has a list of all Robert's paintings and where they were exhibited - I could photocopy it copy for you if you like - he says he can do that.

I have 2 Nisbets - one is called "a day in July" which is a field scene. The other is called "Storm clouds over loch Fyne" (I think!). We don't have any by Pollock. I am not sure which ones my father has but he does have a couple from when Bob was in Venice.

I'm not sure if you have come across a website called www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. You have to buy credits but I found Robert's death certificate on there and it will most likely have a large amount of info for you. It says he died in Crieff of a cerebral haemorrage age 85 years. Another free website is www.scottishdocuments.com that might be useful.

My dad is fascinated that we've made contact - he's going to see what other info he has got and if there is anything he remembers about the rest of the Nisbet family . Is it rude of me to ask ho old you are? I'm 34 years old. My father is 75 and my mother is 73.

Will be in touch

Tessa
