Dear Tessa,
I live in Melbourne but I grew up in the country. The painting of the herbarium done by Agnes might be something to do with John NISBET who was a Professor of Botany, brother to Robert and Pollok.

My Gt Grandmother, Isabella Hope AITKEN who married James NISBET, the other brother, was also a concert pianist. The AITKEN's were artistic too and ran Temperance Hotels and Coffee Houses which were places that artists hung out at. One painted a picture of my Gt Grandmother when he couldn't pay the rent.

I know there are paintings by both Robert and Pollok owned by the Queen. Somewhere I have a list of Galleries where their paintings are. I think the Scottish Art Gallery in Edinbrugh has a few too. I also have a list of works exhibited by the brothers and I think this includes Margaret.

If it is possible I would love to see pics of the paintings. I've been trying to collect copies of both brothers works over the years. Anything else would be welcomed too. I know Pollok had at least 2 children but the families lost contact many years ago.

Robert wrote a book on painting. I know there was a problem getting Robert's paintings out to Australia as he died during the war and freight costs were high. Most came without their frames as a result.

Look forward to hearing more,
