Jacob Knipper and Susanna Hildebrand
Emil G. Knipper and Eugenia c. Boweres
bother of Emil; Albert and Gisell F?
while in San Francisco, persons got jobs where-ever they
could. Some of these men in this familmy were mechanist,
metal workers. (and Susannah/Susan earned money from home

During the years 1900-1910 san Francisco,Ca.
had a fire and earthquake(s).
Many families were evacuted to other areas near San Francisco including Oakland...and where-ever else.

Edward and wife; Elinor and one child...left San Francisco
and went to southern California in Santa Barbara.

I don't know if Edward's parents told him to leave and try
and be safe, or Edward decided to leave.

Even up thru 1925 California were having constant earthquakes and aftershocks up and down California.

My family of Edward, Elinor, moved - relocated to Santa Barbara, Ca. at the age of about 20 years old. Edward
was the only one to leave of the Knippers. With the constant earthquakes, and aftershocks thruout the years;
Edward developed a severe fear of living in California,
and had many panic attacks and thought of suicide. He was
a young man, married and children and trying to earn a living.

Edward F. Knipper had left the area where he grew up and was raised and left his family. Why they picked Santa Barbara,Ca. or maybe that was where they were told to go.About 1940, Edward committed suicide. Leaving his
wife Elinor I. Shaver-Knipper and now two children.

I don't know much of California evacation if family provided money to travel or if local government in California gave some monies to persons who wanted to leave. transportation was probably by train.

Elinor survived living in Santa Barbara,Ca. with two childrhen...She volunteed to be a 'air raid warden'...which
had her have binoculars, and probably a telephone to phone
the military authorities of she spotted any unfamiliar
airplanes. With having a telephone she was able to keep
in contact with her Shaver families as well as the Knippers.

another bit of California history and why persons move.

Elinor Shaver-Knipper never returned to San Francisco,Ca.
later on one of Elinor's brothers came to Santa Barbara,Ca.
and he too never returned to San Francisco,Ca.

another bit of California history and why persons move.

We always kept the original spelling of Knipper with the "K". and when we pronouce the name Knipper it IS
pronounced ; nipper.
