Nathan Eric Niles was a Rear Admiral in the US Navy. His line is:

Nathan E. 8 ( Col. Alanson 7, Nathan 6-4, John 3-1) Niles. Nathan 5 moved from Colchester CT to Tioga PA where he was a county judge. The area where the family lived in Tioga County is named Niles Valley. Nathan 4 was a physcian and minister at Colchester. RADM Nathan E. Niles is interred at the Arlington Memorial Cemetery,Va.

Another US Navy Admiral is also there: RADM Kossuth Niles, son of County Judge Nathaniel Niles of Springfield,IL. Nathl held the rank of a B/Gen during the Civil War commanding two IL regiments.

I don't know if Nathan E's father-in-law had military rank.

"The Michael S. Schrage Family Home Page" has more on this family (Fam # 56).
