John's age varies from census to census. In 1850 he is 60 years old and in 1860 he's 64 years old. He supposedly served in the War of 1812 so a birth year for him of about 1790 may be more accurate. As for his parents, they may be Barnabas & Thankful (Stevens) Niles of Colchester CT and Rumney and Coventry,NH. Thankful was born in 1748 at Stonington Ct., so John may have been a late birth for Thankful. Barnabas & Thankful also had a son named Jesse born 12 Feb 1775. The name Jesse repeats in the naming of John's children. Thankful married Thomas Carter after Barnabas' death and moved to Ohio. John and another son Barnabas, Jr., moved to Ohio, with John supposedly going there in 1816. Barnabas 4 Niles,Sr., line is: (John 3-1).
