Thanks for your message. Mary Ann (John's daughter) was married in Blackburn and I believe was also born there. I was 12 when I was last in England so distances between towns are no longer familiar to me, and where I live in Australia the nearest town is 3 hours drive away so I'm a little fuzzy about distances. I do remember my mum (John's granddaughter) speaking of living in Bolton in her childhood so I guess this is close to Blackburn.

John was already deceased by Mary Anne's marriage in 1928. So I think the 1840's is probably a bit early. Mary Anne was born in 1906 so this would have made your John 50-60 years old. I guessed he was born in the 1880's sometime.
