I know by experience that "Nieto" is a hard name to search along with the families. The U.S. Census has the last name "Nieto" as a low .005 % frequency where "Smith" would be 1% or something. What I did find was that there are a number of Nieto's in Southern California where I am from. I was able to find some roots with a Spanish or Mexican General named Manuel Nieto and the Native Americans, the Gabrielinos. ( I believe the spelling is correct) By the way, Manuel Nieto and or the Gabrielinos Native Americans owned much or all of what we know as Southern California. Joe F. Nieto III
