Origin of Nieto surname

Dear Luis,
The surname comes from a grandson of one of the Spanish kings, back in 1375 before Spain was one united kingdom. It was said of a child in the royal family, "He is the king's grandson."Nieto, of course, means grandson, and when he grew up he decided that his descendants would carry this name. The coat of arms has a lion on a background which is half red and half blue-green and there are four silver fleurs-de-lis in the corners. That is about all I can remember for anyone who wants to know.Sincerely, Sarah
