Saw your post here. I also have roots in Garrelsweer, but
I don't think we are related. My ancestor was Jan Jacobs
van Garrelsweer, b.1749 in Garrelsweer. He adopted the
surname of Nienhuis in 1810, as a result of an edict of
Napoleon that all Dutch citizens must adopt a surname if
they were not already using one.

I write now to let you know that Garrelsweer will
celebrate the 950th anniversary of its founding in 2007.
I had the idea that all of us who have roots there might
have a grand get-together in conjunction with that event.

I have not yet suggested this to anyone officially, but
would like to know if there is any interest in this idea.
I have no financial interest in such an event.
