Dear Sean, Thank you very much. I have been trying to learn from a young lady in Finland, how to read the Finnish names, and what it means....re: actual name, name of farm, etc etc....and Im more confused. Once one gets back to Finland, it seems to mean little in some cases, what one's names was.....just by purchasing a farm, one might change their name. But, I really am interested in the life my Grandfather Matt had, how he lived...why he came. I have discoved that the Finns that came back then might have been more Swede than Finn.....actually part of Finland was Sweden.....parts were Russia, and became Finland, and that some men of this era....were actually escaping some law that had come into use.....drafting Finnish men into the Russian Army. So I guess my main quest is to really know more about the Immigrant to the US not just the Resident of Finland. Your Father is not too much older than me....so we could be called of the same genration. I guess the thing that really makes me nuts is:....I knew no Niemi's as relatives as a child. I didnt go to school with another Niemi. I started school in 1945 in West Virginia Minn....finished in Virginia...and 7th grade before I moved with my folks to California. Thanks again Sean, I will be interested to hear what your Father has to say. Priscilla Notify Administrator about this message?
