Hello Patti: Way back in 1965 I was briefly married to a girl named Betty Niemela. Her parents were Elmer Niemela and Bertha Thompson Niemela. Her father was from either Michigan or Wisconsin. I remember her father spoke with a thick Finnish accent.
In the February 1995 issue of American History magazine there is an article on the Finnish immigrants Johan Niemela and Sophia Juntilla who married in San Francisco in 1880. Johan Niemela changed his name to John Jackson. Johan Niemela arrived in San Francisco from Finland in 1875. Although these Niemela's may not be directly related to Betty's family I thought some of this might help. Eddie
