I have information that the original name was FUNKHOUSER and that a group of this family still live in Switzerland. Another relative has been to the area and met them.
As for when they came into America. I believe you are correct that they came in in the 1770s prior to '76. The information I have on my Funkhousers comes from a Professor at the University of Virginia and should be accurate.
