Clare, unfortunately the name Guiseppe Nicola does not ring a bell and neither does the immigration to Australia but.... you have a couple of interesting surname spellings that I have not seen before (e.g. Nicolia and Nicholia). As I said though, I know NOTHING about the relatives in the Alsace-Lorraine area (or Germany, France, or Prussia - since our Nicola's put all 3 of those on various U.S. census'). I don't think my line of Nicola's came from Switzerland (unless it was Elizabeth Yanson Nicola - Lewis/Louis Alexander Nicola's wife. She was supposed to have been Swiss I think). I HAVE heard a rumor that one of the Nicola's came from a very wealthy family in Italy but got into some very serious trouble and the family forced that Nicola (don't know if male or female) to move to the Alsace-Lorraine area. Again, that is just a rumor my aunt says she overheard when small so heaven only knows if it is true. Where are you located now? I get the impression you are NOT in the U.S., right? If so, you might be aware there are quite a few Nicola's in the U.S.
Sorry I couldn't give you more info. If we keep looking, maybe we'll find a way to link our families together and REALLY have some wonderful stories! Thanks for the contact!! Karel
