Martha Cunningham was born in Missouri, Aug 23, 1861 and yes she did marry -- William Enna Nicol born Jan 27, 1861 in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
William & Martha were married Aug 22,1892 in Assumption, Illinois. I don't know where she is buried, she did not stay in Illinois after his death.
That was after his first wife Margaret ( Grant) Nicol b Feb 26, 1860 died. He was buried beside to her at his death in January of 1941, in the Assumption IL cemetery. He and Margaret Grant came over from Scotland together they were married in Tayorville, IL on June 28th, 1884, shortly after arriving in Illinois. Apparently they already had relatives in Assumption. William & Margaret were accompanied by two of his brothers John b May 31, 1970, & Robert b May 10, 1867 on the ocean voyage to America. They left a young daughter ( Margaret Grant Nicol b Oct 2, 1879 ) with her parents, but when they went back for her later, Margaret's parents would not let her come to America, so she grew up, married and died in Scotland. However, they did bring back a niece Willamena b Apr 8, 1883 which they adopted. Besides the three boys, George b May 5,1885, James b Dec 29, 1888 & Alexander b Nov 13, 1890, they also had a daughter Jessie b Aug 30, 1887 -- she was my grandmother although she died Jan 27, 1914 when her son was only 3 1/2 years old and he can't remember her.
Martha & William had the two boys Elmer Fielding Nicol b Aug 22,1895 and Robert Raymond Nicol b July 28, 1898 they also adopted another niece Jessie Margaret Nicol b Feb 1, 1905. Martha's fathers name was Fielding Cunninghan and she had a brother named Robert Cunningham although every one called him Bert.
William's father, George & Jessi Jane ( Haye ) Nicol, his grand father George & Helen ( Horne ) Nicol, and his great grandfather George & Margaret ( Naire ) Nicol were all named George. And that's back to 1765 with all being born near Aberdeen, Scotland. William had 8 brothers & sisters in Scotland, Elspet, Helen, Goeorge, Peter, James, and Margaret, and counting the two brothers who came over with him.
