I have been both doing my own research and gleaning from others information that I might have missed. This is a combination of both of these efforts. I am wondering if anyone has any documented proof as to the lines shown here? I am willing to compile it and repost to thsi site. I am looking for deeds, census records, wills, certificates, war records, jail records, anything on this family. Notes I do have are included below.

*2 The Will of John Price, dated 20 Feb 1710 (probate 1713), Talbot Co, MD; Bk 35 A, p. 12 names wife, Elizabeth [possibly a Quinton?]; granddaughter-Mary Nicks; son, John Price; daughter-Mary Armstrong; daughter-Elizabeth Tibbell; and daughter-PHOEBE NICKS Witnesses: Walter Quinton, Henry Keith
*3 John Nicks secured grants for two sections just east of the church. His wife was Margaret, and their children were Sarah, George (1756-1838), John, Elizabeth, Nancy, Quinton, and two other daughters, one of whom married Bazell Brasher, and the other married Isaac Brasher, sons of Robert, and both moved to Tennessee after the War; Sarah married William Spruce and lived on the south side of North Buffalo; John moved to Tennessee after the War; Elizabeth married George Purcell of Rockingham County; Nancy married Zacheriah Roberts and moved to Tennessee after the War; Quinton died unmarried; George married Elizabeth, and their children were John, Sarah, Margaret, George, Elizabeth, Yarburough and Anne. George, Sr., lived at the J. Al Rankin place. John Nicks, Sr., died in 1781. [end of page 26]

The following excerpts are quoted from History of Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Her People, Greensboro, N. C., by Rev. S. M. Rankin; published by Jos. J. Stone & Co., Greensboro, NC, (publication date not specified, but apparently during the 1920's), pages 22 -__.
[Readers are encouraged to verify information contained in this chapter with their own research. There may be errors, as source documents from two centuries ago could have been misinterpreted. For example, in those days, "Jr." meant "the younger man who goes by the same name," and that designation could be used in court and other records to refer to a son, grandson, nephew, cousin, or even an unrelated individual who had the same name as the older man. "War" in these notes refers to the Revolutionary War. Rev. Rankin did not cite his sources, or footnote his statements.]

John Nicks migrated from Talbot or Dorchester Co, Maryland, to Orange Co, NC in 1753, with a stopover in Culpepper Co, Virginia. He is listed among the "Nottingham Colony," the founders of Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Orange, later Guilford Co, North Carolina. John and Margaret had seven children, all b. Talbot Co, MD:

*4 In 1728, Walter Quinton left tracts called "Horsepond Ridge" and "Hambleton's Marsh" to his God-daughter, Margaret Edwards; John Nicks and Margaret, his wife, of Culpepper Co. VA, later transferred these tracts to Peter Davis, via their power of attorney to George Nicks and Isaac Nicks (Abstracts of Land Records of Dorchester Co. MD, by James McAllister, v 10, p 654)

Margaret's maiden name was NOT Quinton, as some researchers have thought. In his Will, in 1728, Walter Quinton, Jr. left land called "Horsepond Ridge" and "Hambleton's Marsh" in Dorchester Co, MD to his God daughter, Margaret Edwards, who appears to be a niece; in 1753, John Nicks and his wife, Margaret, sold that same land to Peter Davis of Talbot Co, MD, via their power of attorney to George Nicks and Isaac Nicks, brothers of John Nicks [IV].
