If you are related to Frank (Francois) Nicklaw and his wife, Amelia Livernois, then you are related to me on my great grandmother, Almira (Boursier dit Nicholas dit Nicklaw dit Nichols) Dumas Perry's side of the family. How you are connected to the Boursier (later changed to Bourcier)family is that the Nicklaw family had a chnage of family name once they came to America. They assumed a "dit" name. Bourcier and Nicklaw are the same family!

The family started off as Boursier (or Bourcier as it is now seen)in Canada then they adopted the dit name of Nicholas (pronounced "Nick law". Once they immigrated to the US, officials who often could not understand the heavy French accents often misspelled the names of arriving immigrants. Thus the Boursier dit Nicholas family of Canada began showing up in US records with numerous variations of the Nicholas name. Some Boursier famil members assumed the name Nicholas, some Nicklaw and others Nichols.

Frank Nicklaw maintained the name of Nicklaw whereas my Great grandmother's family went by the name of Nichols although in some records they are also shown as Nicklaw.

For more data on this family including Frank and Amelia go to this link/web address where I, and two other related individuals have posted numerous info on the entire family.

I also have the family history (again including Frank & Amelia on a Microsoft Word document. If you would like a copy emailed to you just let me know.

Jeannette T. Dumas
