Cole, George and Goviner (Grovenier) Nickerson, Sensabaugh, Orange, Ulster, NY

  of 1581

Cole Nickerson was born in the mid 1790's in Connecticut. With his first wife Maria Sensabaugh a child
Elizabeth was born in 1818. In the 1820 census for Montgomery, Orange Co. NY his name is mispelled Nicholson and he has one son. The 1830 census there shows 4 sons under 10 and several daughters. About 1833 he move to town of Walkill. In 1840 Walkill there was a John Nickerson, and a Foster. Foster and Cole were both in their 40's and may have been brothers. In 1850 as Cole Nixon he seems to have a new wife Julia. He was in the NYS censuses of 1825 and 35, too.
1860 Cole 69 in the household of George Nichoson or Nicoson. In 1850 George and Grovenir as Nixons show up in the Ulster Co. census as hired hands in two different households. In 1860 they have their own and since Grovenir is on the next page after Cole and Georges page they were most likely 2 of his 4 sons. George was born about
1827.
If you have any additional information on this family such as other relatives or Coles parents, please let me know as my ggg grandfather John was the right age to be Coles eldest son. Curtis Nickerson II
