John was born in Orange County between 1815 and 1820.
First, I am aware of the Nickerson association but between their genealogists and my own research have been unable to connect into their books.
In 1855 the family was John Nichelson age 41, born Orange, Mahala wife 33, born Orange,William H. 15 Orange. Mariha or Marilda 9, Mahala 6 Orange, Frances 1 Orange. In 1863 another son John M. was born who lived in Suspuehanna Pa. and Broome County NY. He had a son Clarence who was run over by trains in 1899 and a daughter Jennie.
William H. 1839 (John's son) had family Margaret J. Mesler 1842 (Canouse, adapted), Melissie 1858, John C. 1861, Rosilla -Gates b. 1863 and Mildred - Mrs. Crowell 1867. By second wife Charity: Clarence, Lafayette, Gertrude, Mary Mertice Spencer and one other boy that slips my mind.
In Orange Co. a seemingly related family has Foster Nickerson(1806?) with sons Uriah 1852 Henry, James 1843, David 1837 and Daniel 1847 . Daniel had sons William, John and Charles(1864) to name a few.
The big question - who was their ancestor? My thought is Nathaniel #794 who was in Southeast, Putnam NY in 1800,
then Ulster Co. Warwarsing 1810, Shawangunk 1820, Orange Co. 1815-1835. and Nathaniel had quite a number of unknown sons. There are other possibilies. Curtis Nickerson II
