Hi Rick- The Nickerson Books show Ansel, the son of Ansel and Bathsheda (Barshua) (SMALL) NICKERSON, on pages 159-160 actually (your page references were obviously noted incorrectly). The basic information shown on these pages: Ansel NICKERSON (Thomas, Thomas, William, William, the immigrant) was b. Chatham, MA 2 May 1727; md., int. at Harwich, MA, 21 May 1748, Bathsheba Small, the d/o Lt. Zachariah and Jane (Davis) Small. Their son: Ansel, b. Chatham, 20 Nov. 1748; md. 14 Nov. 1771, Mary SMITH of Barrington, NS; died bef. 1790 at Martinique WI. His birth record reads, "The following name which was Levi is now altered to Ansel by Reason of the Death of his father at the Desire of his mother. Ansel, Son of Ansel and Bathsheba." During his life he had the reputation of being a ruthless man and a criminal of sorts. Although he was tried for murder aboard ship of four cousins, he was never convicted. Bathsheba md. a second time and had more children. Rick, if you'd like more info from the book, email me directly and I'll let you know what the books have to offer for Ansel's Nickerson lineage.
