Brenda: Mary Malinda Welchance (Knick) is the Mother (Judie's gg Grandmother) of my Wife's Grandmother Clara Bell Belliew (Tatum). I have a photo of Mary which shows clearly that She had Native American Ancestory. We have established that my wife, Judith Barbara Tatum (Nelson), has Cherokee ancestory through the Tatum side of the family, Judie's gg grandmother was fullblooded Cherokee and her husband was half-blooded Cherokee. We are now working our way back through the Balliew side of the family as our family tradition indicates that there was also Cherokee ancestory on the Balliew side of the family. The Knick family came in through Willim Knick b. September of 1838 in Rockbridge, Virgina. I have found, so far, that they had four children: Laura Adelaide Knick, Alice Knick, Dorcia Knick (I have a picture of Dorcia), and Walker Knick. I notice that this post is rather old, so am not sure that this will get to you but thought I would give it a shot. If this, by chance, should get to you do not hesitate to contact me direct (Larry Nelson - [email protected]) and perhaps we could exchange information. Respectfully yours.
