I thought I'd share this 'connection' with the forum:

Dear Don, It was exciting to find your post on genealogy.com requesting info on Benjamin Nicholas. He was my great-great maternal grandfather. His son was John B.as you state, his daughters Sarah Jane and Mary Ann (my great-grand), married to George Bray. These are the only children I know of. He is buried in the Vine Street cemetery in Hazleton, Pa.
I grew up in the family homestead on Wyoming Street in Hazleton. From what I understand from my relatives, Benjamin owned 7 houses. My great-grand Mary Ann inherited the house we lived in from her father (and I think the house next door) and John B. got the others. John B.(they always referred to him as John B, not just John) had a daughter named Mazie (sp?) who didn't live in Hazleton. I only remember seeing her once, when I was small.
May I ask how you are related to the Nicholas family? Can you give me any info on Benjamin's parents or other ancestors? How do you know that he was a Rev? There are a few more things I can share with you, not so much genealogy, but family tidbits that may be of interest. I enjoy genealogy, but at this point,I am just a dabbler. Hope very much to hear from you soon. Ruth Witmyer marwite2@yahoo.com
Hi..that's been out there a long time!. I am related to Clara Yeager, wife of David Gordon Nicholas...he was the son of John Benjamin Nicholas son of Rev Benjamin. You are correct about the homes in Hazleton...David Gordon later moved to Scranton and then his parents did too. The Nicholas family continues there..thru D.G's son Donald Yeager Nicholas to his son James Burnell Nicholas. They have run an Auto parts business since about 1912 called D G NICHOLAS CO. The information on Benjamin is all pretty much verified by family records etc..
I have many fond memories of Aunt Mazie..she married Joe Baltz of Gladwynne near Philadelphia. There was also a Howard Nicholas who died early in life and had a daughter Jane who married Frank Walser Publisher of the Hazleton Standard Speaker.
John B was first married to Anna Maxey (mother of David G; Mazie and Howard) and then Laura Davies I believe
Benjamin and John came from Merthry Tydfil, Carmarthenshire, S. Wales (spelling might be a bit off).
I do some geneaology work but I haven't yet figured out how to send the family lines that I've set up on the PAF systems..but I'll find out...any other questions/ideas..let me know.
