Hello Joseph,
The simple answer seems to be "no", no one is known to have original documents that confirm Leonardt Niekumm (several spellings of his name) as the "original grandfather". However, H. Norman Niccum stated in his summary that H.C. Nycum had German church records (Irtsweiler/Erzweiler, Ulmet, Frohnheusen, Baumholder) searched in the late 1930's and found records of "Lenhart Nikum" dating to the 1640's (approximately) . H.C. Nycum subsequently published a lengthy book (300+ pages) that may include original references. The Kalamazoo (MI) and Marion (IN) public libraries supposedly have copies of his book. --- I also suggest that you contact John T. Niccum
( ) to see if he has documentation. John T. has the most complete records of which I am aware. --- If you find confirming documentation, please share it with the rest of the extended family. We are all searching for our roots.

John (John G. Nickum)
