Sorry I did not quite understand your message about the 500 years.Perhaps you did not quite understand my message, either.It might be due to English being my second language at which I’m not quite fluent.
I was asking your help in determining if the two branches of Mejia existing in Nicaragua are Jewish; the Northern branch thinks they are Jewish, the Southern branch thinks not, but neither has kept (or remembers) any Jewish customs or traditions in the family.
We’re trying to determine if at one time (say before the Inquisition) all those with the Mejia surname were Jews or if the surname existed for both Jews and Gentiles (Luis Mejia in Don Juan Tenorio did not seem to be Jewish).Hope this clarifies my query.Thank you very much for your help.
(By the way, I am Catholic and the same is true for my great great grandparents, if this makes any difference)
