I am researching Telghman "Tillman" Niblett (born about 1804 in SC)who was married to Magina Puckett (born about 1809 NC?SC) They were on the Oktibbeha Co. MS census in 1850 and the Choctaw Co. MS census in 1860. Their children were 1)Sarah born 1834 in GA married John Bright no further information 2) Andrew Jackson born 1835 in GA married Susan Briggs 3)James Marion born 1837 GA married Nancy Elizabeth Briggs 4) Telghman Newton born 1838 in GA married Martha Briggs 5)Richard born 1840 GA died 22 May 1862 in Civil War at Corinth, MS 6)William born 1842 in GA no further information 7)Jessie A. born 1843 in MS no further information 8) Zachery Taylor born 1848 in MS married Julia Briggs 9(Julia Ann Elizabeth born 1852 in GA?MS married John Smith Newkirk who are my great grandparents 9)Mary V. born 1855 in MS married Solomon Armstrong.
Does anyone have any information on who were the parents of my Telghman "Tillman" Niblett or where in GA they were on the 1840 census. I am thinking they were probably in GA in 1840 since their children were born in GA from 1834 through 1842. There is an unproven family tradition that we are Native American (Cherokee?) through this Niblett/Puckett line. Another unproven family tradition is that my Niblett/Newkirk line were cousins of some degree. John Smith Newkirk's parents were Hiram Newkirk who was married to Malinda Brandon.
Does anyone know where the name Telghman/Tillman Niblett originated?
