What is the truth?
There are two families saying that Elizabeth Garland b. 31 March 1748 to John Garland and Mary (Molly) Rand in Barrington, New Hampshire, married into their family. The families are Ebenezer Nock in 1770 with three children to follow and Captain George Waterhouse in 1771 with several children to follow. (Not Possible)
In the "History of the Town of Rye, New Hampshire from its Discovery and Settlement to December 31,1903" by Langdon B. Parsons on page 358 Elizabeth Garland's parents and their children are recorded and that Barrington, Hew Hampshire, is where the parents moved and had their children. There is only two Nock names mentioned in the book. No connections at all.
From the book "Vital Records of Barrington, New Hampshire 1720-1851" the Garland children are mentioned on page 4 and on other pages how some married into the Waterhouse family. George Waterhouse's wife's maiden name is not mentioned but it is an Elizabeth b. 31 March 1748. There is no Nocks mentioned at all in the book.
In the NEHG Register of 1920 the "Master Tate's Diary" states an Elizabeth Garland marrying an Ebenezer Nock but no marriage date nor Elizabeth's birth is given.
In some of the Nock family trees it is said that Elizabeth Garland was living in Rollinsford, New Hampshire at the time of marrying Ebenezer Nock.
Could this Elizabeth Garland be another person? Wouldn't it make more sense that the Elizabeth Garland of Barrington would have married George Waterhouse since other members of her family had also married into the Waterhouse family? And the date of the birth given to George Waterhouse's wife's seems logical to be that of Elizabeth Garland?
But I need more definitive records if they exist.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS: A very long transcript typed by a Waterhouse in the early 1900's and housed in the Maine Historical Society states Elizabeth Garland did marry George Waterhouse with parents and dates given of both. But what sources were used or discovered is not shared.
