If Jeremy Smith was a Revolutionary War veteran, my suggestion would be to go to the NARA in Waltham, MA and scan for his Pension Papers. In these papers they offer so much of this persons life (and sometimes you get lucky with a Date of Death).

Also, Epping, NH has a wonderful Library with old resources as well as the Historical Society in town. Two great stops for loads of information.
