Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

I think you and I agree on the basic idea - I would hope it would never be done either without an informed consent.

However, legally, the agreements are out there and they are being pointed to. In this case, as with everything on the net, it is up to the user to make sure they read everything they agree to.

The basic reason I wrote was that I received your message in a variety of different forms on several of my lists today. On several of them, it gave the impression such sales were being done with NO consent.

I have yet to see proof of that and as I state earlier, if Genealogy.com has been guilty of such infractions, I have seen NO proof it has been done from the GenForum boards.

In fact, Genealogy.com officials have categorically denied it to you and others in the GenForum forum.

In all fairness, I think all sides should be presented.

(Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with GenForum - In fact, I have been a vocal critic of GenForum. But I see nothing to be gained without having definitive proof in my hands).

Jackie
