I wouldn't want you to waste a lot of time filling me in on every detail since I'm not actually an Ames descendant.I was just hoping I could find something that would be useful. In looking further at the Laconia Ames from 1860 it appears the William J. is almost positively the same William who was a son of Thomas Jefferson Ames.It appears he married the older widow (Rhoda) who was living next door to them in 1850.
I also noted that the Sally/Sarah Crosby who has a John M. Ames living with her in 1860 Laconia is the same Sally who was living in Holderness 1850.Possibly John M's age was entered wrong in 1850 since it doesn't quite match the later census records.
Seems likely this John and William (sons of Thom.Jeff.)were related to the David Ames who died before 1860 since John is in the same house as his widow and William is just a couple of doors away.
I checked the sites I have access to, but am having no luck finding anything on this David (born c1790s)other than what I already posted. It's possible he really was a Jr as the Plummer/Plumer book suggested.I'm sure you know there was a David Ames in Gilmanton 1790 (next to a James Ames).
you probably already have this info, but maybe it will save time for someone looking at this post.
Wish I could have found something useful for you.
