Asahel (Ashael?) Carr of Weare, NH
Greetings,
I am trying to resolve a question concerning someone named Asahel Carr, who lived in New Hampshire in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
I am descended from one Ira Carr (b. 1806) of Tioga County, PA (and later Troupsburg, NY).He, along with his brothers Lewis Lowell (b. abt. 1801) and Ashael (b. abt 1810), was apparently the son of one Asahel Carr of New Hampshire. The three may have been born in NH themselves.
I've found a number of sources that suggest that Asahel of New Hampshire (w. Hannah?) was born about 1762, the son of Sanders Carr of Salisbury, MA (b. 1734), who left MA for NH and lived in Raymond.Other sources suggest Asahel was born closer to 1775.Sanders of MA, in turn, is widely documented as descending ultimately from George Carr of Ipswich, MA, (born 1599 in England).
If the lineage is correct, Asahel would have lived early in life in Raymond, Epping, or perhaps Kingston, and later in Weare (all in NH).
The problem is a roughly ten-year gap in the line; if Asahel was born in 1762, 1801-1810 seems latish for him to be having children. On the other hand, if the 1775 date is correct, his relationship with Sanders (b. 1734 in MA) becomes a bit problematic.
I would be very grateful if anyone who has researched Carr lineages could shed light on this, as well as the oft-disputed surname of Sanders Carr's spouse (Page?Maxwell? Both?)
Robert Carr
