Isak Heinonen
Isak Heinonen
I have sent many quires, letters and emails about my mother’s grandfather Isak Heinonen. It has been my basic hobby for two years. Family searching has given me great opportunity to learn more English, get new friends, learn how to use my computer etc. But I haven’t found our ancestor, although I have got lot information about him. I even got a photo of him.
There are many things why I haven’t yet found him: There was at least six Isak Heinonen who immigrated to America on the first difficult years of 1900. I have found most of those who can be found from Internet, but they all are too old. It isn’t so easy to find a person from USA as in Finland. You can’t get lost in Finland. There is a possibility that he might have changed his name, but somehow I don’t believe that he has changed it very much.
These are my facts:
My mother’s grandfather Isak Heinonen was born 1.1.1870(or 1.2.1870) in Pyhäjärvi in Finland. His parents were Zefanias and Erika Heinonen. He was a good carpenter. Isak was married with Kaisa Lisa Luonua on the 28th of December in 1897 in Kärsämäki. Isak travelled from Hanko on the 10th of March in 1906 on a ship named Urania to England and there on the ship Ivernia of Cunard Line to Boston. The ship arrived to Boston on the 12th of April in 1906. Isak didn’t travel alone. He had a nephew named Isak Heinonen, who was born on the 20th of December in 1888 in Pyhäjärvi Finland. He was the oldest son of Isak’s brother Henrik. They both were going to the place called Rockland (ME).
My mother’s grandfather Isak had a brother Herman (b.31.5.1874) who also travelled to USA in 1902 and he possibly died in 1927. His grave is in the cemetery of Waasa in Hancock Township, Houghton County, Michigan.
The younger Isak had a brother Heikki (b.11.6.1893) who travelled to Canada and died there on the 19th of November in 1977.
If anyone can help me I would be very grateful.
